Recently, an article appeared on myCentralJersey.com titled 'Economy has spurred enrollment spike at vocational and technical schools'. There is a good reason for this. In a struggling economy with millions out of work, it becomes apparent to many that they must do all that they can to compete. That may mean improving on rusty technical skills or learning a whole new trade in order to make a transition into a new career.
But what is the right route to take? An investment of money and time getting career training should be something that is useful in the long-run.
Many people are seeking out training in areas that are not easily outsourced to other countries like China or India. Vocational training in auto technology, cosmetology and health-care related specialties such as x-ray technician, phlebotomy(blood drawing) and licensed practical nursing are all seeing a huge surge in student enrollment.
Healtcare fields are growing across the board due to the increasing number of people needing medical care. Whether the interest is for clinical roles such as medical assisting, physical therapy, and ultrasound technology or medical office administrative roles such as medical billing, medical transcription or medical records, there is a currently more demand than supply.
If you're out of work. How do you pay for vocational training?
There are many programs to help unemployed workers get needed training. In addition to traditional federal financial aid and loans, President Obama's administration passed an education stimulus plan in 2009 to make billions of dollars in federal Pell Grants available to people that would not normally qualify. If you're receiving unemployment benefits, you may qualify for this vocational training money, and any accredited vocational school should be able to help you gain access to it.
There is opportunity out there to get training as well as to get funding for it. Search Career Study's network of over 1,000 online and campus-based vocational training programs to find a school that can help you with choosing the right training program as well as assist you with applying for the funds you need to pay for it.
